Kombucha Face Mask

  • Kombucha is a beverage made from sweetened black or green tea fermented by microorganisms. It has been consumed for more than two thousand years in China and may have originated in Manchuria. Consumption of kombucha, known as "The Tea of Immortality", was first documented in China in 221 BC during the Tsin Dynasty. The name kombucha (from “kombu” and “cha” meaning kelp tea) is reported to have come from Japan in 415 AD. In Ukraine and Russia, drinking kombucha or “tea kvass” made from a “Japanese mushroom” was a popular health remedy during the late 19th century.

Kombucha SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast) is a flat disk made of a gelatinous mushroom membrane which is tougher than it looks. The mushroom thrives in sweet tea, constantly multiplying over the surface before thickening. It’s said that if you treat it well, your mushroom will be with you for life.

Kombucha mask is a cellulose mask made through a fermentation process using a microorganism isolated from Kombucha. The paper thin mask clings to the contours of the face. When a treatment serum is added, the sheet absorbs 2.5 times its weight in liquid to provide optimum hydration, as well as the benefits from the actives contained in the serum.
