Cocoa bean shell contains theobromine, a methylxanthine very similar to caffeine. It is a stimulant that can have an energizing effect. The intoxicating fragrance of chocolate enhances the feeling of well-being.
Anti-oxidant activity
Cocoa is also rich in complex polyphenols (oligomeres) and in vitamin E,  both of which possess strong anti-oxidant powers. Due to this anti-aging effect, cocoa is also ideal for maintaining a healthy complexion. Cocoa might also prevent damage caused by free radicals to collagen, elastin and other proteins in the skin.
